Head of Financial Planning, First Republic Private Wealth Management

Richard Scarpelli is Managing Director and Head of Financial Planning at First Republic Private Wealth Management. Prior to joining First Republic in 2017, Mr. Scarpelli was Head of Financial Planning at UBS and was also Co-Head of Advanced Planning and a Senior Wealth Strategist. Prior to UBS, he was a Tax Senior at Arthur Andersen in the Private Client Services group, providing individual, partnership and gift tax advice to high net worth clients. He is a licensed certified public accountant in the state of New York.

JAY HALVERSON

Estate and Business Planning Specialist, First Republic Securities Company

Jay Halverson is a Senior Managing Director of Estate and Business Planning at First Republic Securities Company. Prior to joining First Republic in 2016, Mr. Halverson helped build a small startup ATM processing company into an over $100 million acquisition to E-Trade. Along with holding various leadership roles, Mr. Halverson served as COO for Certified Security Solutions and a Managing Member of Financial Blueprint Design. His expertise and experience center on assisting business owners with their challenges regarding succession, exit and transition.

VANESSA STURGEON

President and CEO, TMT Development and Sturgeon Development Partners

Vanessa Sturgeon has spent her 20-year career working in commercial real estate, developing and managing approximately seven million square feet of industrial, residential, retail shopping centers and mixed use high rise assets. Her contributions to Portland’s skyline are as abundant as her love for the city of Portland, where she was born and raised. Ms. Sturgeon serves as the Board Chair for New Avenues for Youth, Chair Emeritus of the Portland Business Alliance, R & H Construction, the Knight Cancer Council and NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development. Her community awards include Portland Monthly Magazine’s Women Who Move the City, Portland Business Alliance’s A Place With No Ceiling Award, Daily Journal of Commerce Newsmakers of the Year and Women of Vision awards, the Portland Business Journal’s Women of Influence - Orchid and 40 Under 40 awards. Ms. Sturgeon earned her bachelor’s degree from Santa Clara University and her MBA from Atkinson Graduate School of Management, Willamette University.

ANDREW COLAS

President and CEO, Colas Construction

Andrew Colas is driven by a collaborative and results-oriented focus. His extensive knowledge of development in the commercial construction industry is evident, with an established history of long-term contracting relationships, strong outcomes for equity and over 20 years of delivering complex projects. Actively involved in business development and daily operations, Mr. Colas continues to support the growth of Colas Construction, one of the largest Black-owned construction firms in the Pacific Northwest. His dynamic leadership promotes positive engagement for shared success between owners, developers and project teams building various project types, from large-scale multifamily developments to $130 million K–12 schools.

Mr. Colas’ dedication to community and activism is rooted in his experience of being born and raised in Northeast Portland, Oregon. Since 1999, he has consistently promoted investments and job creation for underserved populations through his role at Colas. As a graduate of the University of Oregon and former trustee of the school, Mr. Colas is the Co-Founder of the Black Business Association of Oregon (BBAO) and currently serves on the board of directors for BBAO, NAMC Oregon, New Avenues for Youth and the Portland Business Alliance.
